Casa Testori
publications
Over the years, we have placed increasing importance on the publications that follow the exhibitions, relying on the creativity of highly innovative graphic designers to reflect in the publications the same experimental spirit found in the exhibitions organized by Casa Testori.
This aspect has grown over time, gradually transforming Casa Testori into a true publishing house

THE BOOK SERIES “12 MAGGIO”
In 2025, the first book in the new series published by Casa Testori was released.
The book, written in the form of a diary, recounts in chronological order all the initiatives that composed the rich program of the centenary, fully conveying the variety and intensity of the events.
Each stage is documented not only through words but also with images and contributions, aiming to reflect the complexity and diversity of a program that touched multiple cultural dimensions.
In autumn 2025, the second volume of the series will be released, compiling the proceedings of the conference held during the Testorian Centenary.
Edited by Davide Dall’Ombra and Chiara di Palma.

THE BOOK LA PRIMA VOLTA
Also in 2025, La prima volta (The First Time) was published.
It tells the story of an exhibition: nineteen artists, a house just outside Milan, no longer lived in—and yet, once again, inhabited.
A book that collects other books, many images, and a few notes.
La prima volta was an exhibition at Casa Testori, in Novate Milanese, featuring works by artists born between 1995 and 2001.
Through their research—spanning painting, photography, video, sculpture, and performance—they engaged in dialogue not only with each other’s works but also, and above all, with the architecture, the library, and the domestic heritage of Giovanni Testori’s childhood home, which they occupied throughout the summer of 2024.

THE CATALOGUE WITH A SURPRISE: BORN IN MAC MAHON
In 2023, the catalogue for the exhibition Born in Mac Mahon was published.
This was a special exhibition, and a special catalogue was created to match. Designed by the Paper Paper Studio of Giovanni Cavalieri and Cecilia Bianchini, who were entrusted with the project’s visual identity.
The catalogue includes descriptions of the rooms, the characters, the artworks, and the installations. But there’s a twist: the pages are untrimmed at the edges and can be opened to reveal four large hidden posters ready to hang—
Lauretta Masiero by Riccardo Guasco, Maria Brasca by Elisa Seitzinger, Redenta del Fabbricone by Marianna Tommaselli end Il dio di Roserio by Alessandro Martoz

SEGNI DI ME & LIBERE TUTTE
Two catalogues born from a collaboration with the graphic design studio CH RO MO.
Segni di me – The body, a stage (2022):
Featured six young artists born between 1985 and 1995, invited to engage with the work of Carol Rama, a major figure of the recent past.
The central theme of their work was the relationship with the body, treated as the primary site of artistic expression.
Powerful and at times provocative artworks filled the rooms of Casa Testori, confronting subjective experiences and critiquing the painful legacy of sexism, violence, and other structures of contemporary cultural power.

Libere Tutte (2019):
Not a typical Women’s Day contemporary art show, but rather an attempt to capture the state of female artist representation in Italy’s art system—a presence marked by vitality, intensity, and strength.
The project highlighted significant examples from a wide range of generations and expressive forms.
Libere Tutte was conceived as an open, experimental exhibition—allowing room for trial and error, live feedback, and real-time viewer engagement.
Each artist was given their own room to emphasize the uniqueness of their projects—with three exceptions where shared spaces encouraged deliberate contrast or synergy.

A COVER YOU CAN SCRATCH
In 2019, the collaboration with the Multiplo studio in Padua led to the production of the catalogue for the exhibition Graffiare il presente (Scratching the Present).
The exhibition stemmed from the belief that some contemporary works carry a deep, programmatic intention to offer interpretative tools—critical, poetic, even militant—for engaging with today’s reality.
Not an escape into safe spaces, but a call to confront the world.
Graffiare il presente featured works created in 2018 by 21 Italian artists born between the 1970s and 1980s.
The catalogue’s standout feature? The cover conceals the names of the artists, which must be scratched off with a coin to be revealed.
