melatonina
Performance by Elena Francalanci
In melatonina, a new site-specific performative work conceived for Casa Testori, Elena Francalanci explores sleep as a symbolic death, as a rite of passage toward a new form of self-authority—an act of rebirth marked by the fear of solitude and the risk of danger.
The performative intervention traces a sonic and gestural itinerary that unfolds from inside Casa Testori to the heart of the garden, thus triggering an initial transformation of the project’s installation component.
The audio consists of a recording of the artist while she is learning to play the piano, practicing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. In this way, Elena Francalanci engages daily with a condition of stasis, in which progress seems never to arrive—an ongoing cycle of trying and failing, an experience that Francalanci connects to the rigidity of the moment of falling asleep.
