T-yong Chung, Giovanni, 2019, plaster.
donated by the artist
The work, created for the exhibition Appocundria (2019), is the artist’s tribute to Giovanni Testori. The academic style of the classical portrait is disrupted by the use of a sander, which creates a play between solid and void and requires the completion of the image only through the viewer’s memory or imagination.
The absence of a part demands reconstruction, activating the gaze.
