A Special Evening at Casa Testori
Laboratory for I Tre Lai

Conversation with Federica Fracassi and Renzo Martinelli
Introduction by Fabio Francione, author of Testori. Lo scandalo del cuore

I Tre Lai are the final texts written by Giovanni Testori for the theatre — CleopatràsErodiás, and Mater Strangosciás — originally brought to the stage by Sandro Lombardi in a memorable sequence between 1996 and 1998.

As part of their creative process leading up to the autumn debut of Erodiás, produced by Teatro i, Federica Fracassi and Renzo Martinelli have explored all three of Testori’s tragic heroines, assembling a montage of excerpts from the three texts, previewed within the project Stanze – Experiences of Apartment Theatre.

As Anna Bandettini wrote in La Repubblica, Fracassi — “one of the most daring and gifted actresses of her generation” — has staged “a tense and courageous work that pushes the expressivity of body and voice (including musical echoes from Ornella Vanoni, Mina, and 1960s Rita Pavone) toward a femininity that is vivid and unapologetic, something Testori’s theatre had never fully possessed — toward pain, anguish, and wounds as only women can feel and express, toward that love so akin to non-love that only women know how to recount. A powerful baggage for a journey into Testori’s universe.”

During the evening, Federica Fracassi will also perform select passages from I Tre Lai.

The conversation will be introduced by Fabio Francione, journalist and critic, who has recently published Giovanni Testori. Lo scandalo del cuore (Clichy), a book devoted especially to Testori’s theatre.

Reviews of the performance by Anna Bandettini and Grazia Gregori are available online.
