Riccardo Arzaroli, ALTERATIONS
Man’s intervention in nature. This is a key theme and classic in art since at least the nineteenth century, declined here in this photographic series, placed to mark the passage, as if it were a Via Crucis of square tiles. These are images in which the tenacious and violent thread of human presence pierces and cuts through the bark, year after year. But, on closer inspection, they are a demonstration of how nature is capable of mending these wounds, making them its own, welcoming them and redeeming them. After all, as with man, violence too can be accepted, who knows, perhaps forgiven. Of course, it is never the last word on life.
