Olivo Barbieri (Carpi, 1954) and Walter Niedermayr (Bolzano, 1952) are two leading figures in Italian authorial photography. Both have developed a refined visual language, which they have applied to research on natural and urbanized landscapes. At Gallerie d’Italia, they will present their works related to the themes of mountains and snow. Barbieri has used snow as a key element in some of his most experimental works, in which traditional photography coexists with digital processing. Niedermayr, born in an Alpine context, has keenly observed the changes and contradictions of a landscape that is almost always tied to stereotypes or clichés. For both artists, photography is a form of investigation and a critical exercise aimed at revealing the dynamics of vision that we tend to take for granted in everyday life.
