Giorgio Salvato, FLIGHT OF CROWS AND WEIGHT OF WOLVES
It was a happy and surprising encounter between Salvato’s work and the Liberty building that housed it. A small, precious building saved from decay, rich in its graceful decoration, became home to the animals moulded with iron by the Milanese artist. A painter by training, Salvato draws on the study of anatomy to imbue his sculptures with the truthfulness of body weight, movement and intention. Thus the windows on the first floor were crossed by crows fighting each other or engaged in majestic volutes. On the ground floor, the room housed the circumspect wanderings of three wolves intrigued and weighed unknowingly by a scale. It was a building that lit up in the evening like a splendid floral lantern, as generous in its grace as it was in revealing the nature of its guests.
