«Fulvia Mendini’s works are always characterised by a highly decorative linear and synthetic language, in which influences from graphic design, illustration and the Arts and Crafts tradition can be felt. The flowers, insects and birds that appear in his works function as the headwords of an original visual vocabulary, in which echoes of Eastern and Western artistic culture are blended. The artist uses these signs as modules to compose delicate floral tapestries, evoking both the luminous circular structures of the rose windows of Christian churches and the impertinent sand and rice architectures of Tibetan mandalas.»

THE ARTIST

Fulvia Mendini was born in 1966 in Milan, where she lives and works. After studying illustration and graphics at the European Institute of Design (IED), she began a personal pictorial and decorative research, delving into the world of nature and portraits in particular. She has exhibited her works at the Grand Palais in Paris, at the Expo International in Taejon, Korea, at the Milan Triennale and in many other Italian and European galleries. In 2009 she participated in the Prague Biennale. She has made ceramics in Vietri, and designed a collection of bags for Yoox. She is present in the permanent collection at the Byblos Art Hotel in Verona with some paintings and her mosaic works are installed in the stations of the new underground of Naples.
