THE EXHIBITION
The path of the exhibition at Casa Testori presents the young artists involved in the project through new works and installations specifically designed to narrate their artistic research. But the works by Alberto Gianfreda, Fabio Roncato and the artistic duo bn+BRINANOVARA are created in dialogue with three great 20th-century works by Ennio Morlotti, Giorgio Morandi and Filippo de Pisis, brought to the exhibition from three major Milanese museums: Museo del ‘900, Casa Boschi di Stefano and Villa Necchi Campiglio.
Three paintings presented at Casa Testori and destined to be exhibited in as many Municipal Libraries on the outskirts of Milan next year. These are crucial artists of the 20th century, dear to Giovanni Testori, who lived in this house, and they make it possible to recount three different types of intervention adopted by the critic in his life: poetry, militant criticism and newspaper articles.
In the contemporary debate on the role of the critic and the curator, this exhibition thus recounts different approaches in the relationship with the artist, adopted to give space and speech to his work, questioning how to exhibit it and/or narrate it but also, at times, collaborating in the definition of the artistic process that generates it. This is how the common thread among the six artists presented that gives the exhibition its title, Curatela (Curatorship), is woven, outlining the means of the past and present, capable of triggering a process of growth and understanding of the work of art that benefits the artist and the public.
Testori took on the role of the critic who accompanies with his own words the entire life and work of an artist like Morlotti, on whom he wrote numerous times over a period of more than fifty years; he was able to intervene with poetry on Morandi’s ‘other’ work and use his torrential production in Corriere della Sera to re-establish the significance of an artist like De Pisis.
Casa Testori, on its part, continues to narrate the contemporary vitality of 20th century painting and gives voice to emerging artists, interpreting its curatorial role by accompanying the relationship with its characterised spaces and following the artists step by step in the process.
