Alessandro Pongan, PRONO
«My work is structured around a central character, the Prono. We are faced with the invention of a contemporary archetype that to some extent dialogues with Vitruvius’ man designed by Leonardo. Prono is a character that is represented in different contexts, languages and formats, without ever losing its identity. It is massive, geometric, archaic and pop at the same time. It echoes the Cyclops of Easter Island, Mayan and Aztec iconography, but also Japanese manga and ufo-robots, graffiti and comics. He is on all fours as a sign of sacrifice and endurance, in the typical pose of the oppressed. But at the same time he is an accumulator of energy. In its massive body you can feel the tension of a sprinter at the starting blocks. He is a listening creature, waiting for the right moment. Prono is a symbol of the potential for redemption within us all».
